The Brain Back Story

There is an interesting story behind this album. In 2001, when I was in the early stages of my Spidercat boatbuild, I came to a realisation that I would never complete the boat in the single year I had imagined. So I would need to get back to work, and build the boat part time. Since I had burnt my bridges somewhat in commercial TV, I had to come up with a plan. I decided to dig deep in to my bottom drawer and see what was lurking musically. The Brain is the result and it came together pretty quickly. I sent out 300 copies to every producer I could think of in London. Luckily Nick Hytner at the National Theatre liked it, and hired me to write the music for his next two Shakespeare productions, The Winter’s Tale, and Henry the 5th. This turned my career back to my first love, the theatre and set me off on an entirely new path. Thanks Nick!
