London Blues

London Blues

London Blues is a unique collaboration between composer Simon Webb and iconic blues guitarist Bernie Marsden, together known as Marsden Webb. The genesis for the album was the music the pair created in 2003 for Henry V at the National Theatre, under the direction of Sir Nicholas Hytner.

Blending the emotional depth of blues with the atmosphere and nuance of a theatrical score, London Blues is a powerful instrumental album that captures the soul of the city and the spirit of the stage. From its theatrical roots to its studio development, the music evolved over many years, with Marsden Webb continuing to shape it together until Bernie’s untimely passing in 2023. Now, it is finally being released; a poignant celebration of friendship, creativity, and enduring musical chemistry.

About the Album

The music began life in rehearsals for this groundbreaking production of Henry V, with Simon Webb and Bernie Marsden performing live in the theatre. By the time Bernie and Simon performed at the National Theatre, they had already collaborated on many projects including Hollywood films, British TV, and session work.

The result is London Blues: ambient, spacious, and richly melodic. Marsden’s unmistakable guitar voice winds through Webb’s evocative textures, drawing on blues, folk, and minimalist influences to create something quietly timeless.

This isn’t a soundtrack, but a reimagining; music born in theatre, refined in the studio, and living fully as an album.
